John Dolphin (cricketer)
John Dolphin (born 26 August 1804 at Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire; died 21 June 1889, aged 84, at Antingham, Norfolk) was an English amateur cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1825 to 1827.〔
John Dolphin, son of Rev. John Dolphin (d.1831), was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge (admitted pensioner 29.6.1824, Matriculated Michaelmas 1824), Cricket ‘blue,’ 1827, BA 1828. As a cricketer he was mainly associated with Cambridge University and made 6 known appearances in first-class matches; a member of the Norfolk County XI, 1828-42.〔(CricketArchive ). Retrieved on 8 August 2009.〕 In later life he was a clergyman; Ordained deacon (London) June 1, 1828, priest, June 14, 1829, Curate of Wakes Colne, Essex, 1828–30, Rector of Pebmarsh, 1831–42, Rector of Antingham St Mary with Thorpe Market, and Bradfield, Norfolk, 1830–89, Rural Dean of Repps, 1869-87.〔
He married, 1833, Mary, 4th daughter of Admiral Western, of Tattingstone Park, near Ipswich.〔Venn used for Dolphin: Crockford; Foster, Index Eccles.; Boase, v. 128; Scott, MSS.; Eton Sch. Lists; Book of Blues.〕

Rev. John Dolphin, who died in 1831, was son of John Dolphin, of Shenstone, Staffordshire, armigerous; Christ Church, Oxford, matriculated 3.6.1791 aged 16; BA 1795, MA 1799, curate at Farmington, c1799, prebend of York 1813, Rector of Pebmarsh and Colne Wake, Essex from 1823 to his death 1831.
